When I hear experts' forecasts predicting the dominant share of e-commerce in the grocery industry, it reminds me of school years. A long time ago, the world of the 21st century had to be drawn at the art class. Drawings of my colleagues showed mini-rockets for everyone, eating in tubes and drinks in sachets. Still, we move a lot on foot, and cars do not drive faster than years ago. It turns out that instead of meals from tubes we prefer a traditional pork chop, drinks are rather not in powder, and the quality of coffee is now definitely worse than it used to be. Most people are glued to small flat devices that make contact with the whole world, but that's what my peers did not foresee.
The same will be true for retail trade in 15 or 20 years. Online sales will develop, but still mostly for food, we will go to stationary stores. Online trade will also be a kind of hybrid, because we will often order online, but receive ready shopping already in the store or at the window in the drive in the system. There will be more self-service cash registers, but as soon as there is no queue, customers of the future will prefer to approach the traditional counter. The fact is that cash can disappear in 10 years from circulation. Of course, a network of vending machines will be developed with food items, but they will not be located at every street intersection. In these places, there will be small convenience stores, where we buy basic food products, but also drink coffee (still in the liquid!), eat a hot meal or serve in the internet. Yes, in some stores we will handle ourselves in electronic form, but next to it you will be able to talk to someone. What's more, there will still be fairs, markets, and street sales.
In summary, retail will be very diversified, because the needs and expectations of Polish consumers will continue to be diversified. With the development of the virtual sphere, more and more we will miss the contact with an alive person, whose machines and the internet cannot fully replace.
